Fed entirely by natural springs deep within the Floridan Aquifer, Rainbow River is known for its extraordinarily clear blue-green water, abundant wildlife and nearly constant 72°F temperature.
The river flows approximately 5.7 miles from Rainbow Springs before joining the Withlacoochee River in historic Dunnellon.
Whether you spend your day kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, swimming or simply watching the water go by, Rainbow River offers a glimpse of a quieter and more natural side of Florida.

One of the first things you'll notice about Rainbow River is the incredible clarity of the water.
From a kayak or paddleboard, you can often see straight through the surface to fish, underwater grasses and spring vents below.
The changing depth, white sandy bottom and lush vegetation create shades ranging from emerald green to brilliant turquoise.
Here, simply looking into the water becomes part of the experience.

Rainbow Springs is classified among Florida's first-magnitude springs, the classification given to the state's largest natural springs.

The Story of Dunnellon
The nearby town of Dunnellon was founded in 1884 and changed dramatically after phosphate was discovered in the area in the late 1800s.
Railroads, mining and new residents followed, creating a period of rapid growth.
Today, Dunnellon has returned to its small-town roots. Its historic downtown and location where the Rainbow and Withlacoochee Rivers meet give the area a distinctly Old Florida feel.
